PENNY RUGS

Penny Rug is a form of handwerk that is quick, easy and fun! To describe a historic method of appliqué, the term Penny Rug was "coined" in the early 1800's. The penny coin was large in diameter and that made it an ideal template to cut circles for appliqué designs.
Stonehill continues to use the curve of circles in it's own original designs. Just look at the beautiful Flower Basket to the right!

COLORS
Fall and winter are such wonderful times to think of handwerk. Colors are everywhere. In the fall, leaves and pumpkins are the accent that artists love. In the winter, the red and green of Christmas and the white of snow make such wonderful colors for penny rug projects. We, at Stonehill, look forward with great excitement to our handwerk projects when the days get shorter and the evenings longer.
For example, we have a 10x20-inch fall design that is quick and easy. We call it SPOOKY. This black cat's back is arched and the moon is aglow with color. This table topper could grace your table all season. Or how about OMA'S FALL PUMPKINS. Gardens are Oma's pride. This penny rug kit brings Oma's pleasure of garden harvest to your tabletop. This penny rug features three pumpkins on a solid background edged with lamb tongues.
